In an infrastructure-driven economy marked by urbanization, vertical expansions, and increased construction of high-rise buildings, alongside a surge in transportation infrastructure and Industry 4.0, the demand for structures with varied functionalities is growing. Due to limited land availability, these structures often need to be built on challenging soil conditions, leading to an increased reliance on deep foundations. Engineers must possess knowledge of the design, equipment, and methods for constructing deep foundations to be industry-ready. This course addresses the need for "Building structures in challenging strata with speed and precision through technology." It provides a concise, systematic treatment of design and construction practices for pile foundations, including load testing, quality control, environmental considerations, health and safety, and challenges in execution. The course covers materials, workmanship, and construction procedures for various piles such as cast in-situ piles, precast piles, under-reamed piles, etc. Field experts present these topics through case studies and illustrations. Additionally, the course includes an overview of advancements in pile foundation technology, such as CFA piles, spun piles, helical piles, and an introduction to analysis software for pile foundations.
